MARY KATE MASON, DIRECTOR OF STRATEGY & COMMUNICATIONS

 

Mary Kate is a well-known presence at the Capitol, having served as the Director of Government Affairs for the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) for seven years before joining the Przybysz team. 


During her tenure in DMHAS Government Affairs, Mary Kate played a pivotal role in advancing legislation that directly impacted agency constituents. She provided legislators with critical information and analysis on the effects of proposed bills, ensuring that decision-makers had a thorough understanding of potential outcomes. In addition to her legislative analysis, Mary Kate coordinated strategy with the Governor’s office, various agencies and advocacy groups, engaged in negotiations with legislators, drafted statutory language, organized testimony for committee hearings, and managed requests from legislative constituents.


As a member of the DMHAS executive team, Mary Kate also held the positions of Chief of Staff and Director of Communications concurrently with her role as Director of Government Affairs. In these executive positions, she served as an advisor to the Commissioner, supervised agency initiatives and divisions, and acted as the agency spokesperson. 


Mary Kate was responsible for planning and overseeing public relations, marketing, advertising, and public information activities. Renowned for her expertise in crisis communication, she regularly addressed high-profile and sensitive issues on behalf of the agency.
