MAUREEN MAGNAN, DIRECTOR OF CLIENT & GOV'T AFFAIRS

  

Maureen Magnan previously served as Deputy Commissioner for the CT Department of Consumer Protection from 2021-2025. In that role she oversaw the regulation of many different industries including; liquor control, medical and adult use cannabis, all types of gaming – Lottery, ilottery, slot machines, sports betting and online gaming.


Prior to her appointment as Deputy Commissioner, Maureen was a persuasive policymaker at the Connecticut State Capitol for over 30 years. She worked for several committees before joining the staff of House Democrats, serving six Speakers of the House. 


Named the policy director, then deputy chief of staff, and  Chief of Staff, she helped navigate the caucus through difficult fiscal times and facilitated many policy initiatives. Some examples of those initiatives include the first-in-the-nation Family and Medical Leave Act, the implementation of the S-Chip program, Husky Health Care, efforts to find efficiencies in local government through the regionalization of services, and the most comprehensive gun safety legislation in the country. Ms. Magnan also served as the lead staff negotiator for House Democrats on the state budget.


Maureen has built a career as a political strategist, perfecting grassroots campaigns for the Connecticut House Democrats. During her tenure, through her hard work and leadership, the House Democrats built a highly effective political operation. 


She also serves as a member of the West Hartford Democratic Town Committee. As vice chair in 2001, she helped steer the party towards victory, returning municipal leadership to Democratic control. During her four-year tenure as chairwoman, she orchestrated landmark victories with sweeps of the Town Council and the Board of Education, paving the way for an all-Democratic state legislative delegation. 


A graduate of Hood College, Ms. Magnan received her Master’s in Public Affairs from the University of Connecticut. She currently serves as a member of the Metropolitan District Commission, an 8 member town sewer and water regional commission.
